Is Science Able To Prove The Existence Of God?

Is human science on the verge of proving or disproving the existence of God? Is there a so-called God gene? Check out the following report on NPR - Bradley Hagerty On Science And God : NPR

NPR's Barbara Bradley Hagerty spent a year exploring the science of spirituality for her book Fingerprints of God, and what she concluded was that science can't prove or disprove the existence of God. . ."One of the great pleasures was interviewing people who have had spiritual experiences; it's not just the scientists," she says, adding she talked with Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, people who were spiritual but not religious. "One of the interesting things is what they described as a spiritual experience was basically the same: An encounter with light, an encounter with love, often an out-of-body experience. What that told me is spiritual experience is spiritual experience — it's a human phenomenon and in fact, it may be divine."
What does the Bible say about the "religious experience" and faith in God? Consider the following:

The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good.
The LORD looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God.
They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.
Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the LORD? (Psalm 14:1-4)
The Biblical-Hebrew word for 'fool' is Nabal. The concept is amply illustrated by a story in 1 Samuel 25, from David's life before he became king of all Israel. He and his men were in need of provisions. They went to a very rich sheep and goat herder in southern Judah whose name was Nabal, to remind him that they had protected his shepherds and shearers from marauders. In light of this, would he share some food with them on this particular feast day? When Nabal refused, they were prevented from harming him in anger by the wisdom of Nabal's wife Abigail. Packing up a large number of donkeys with wine, grain, figs and raisins, she met David and his armed men.
"Let not my lord regard this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal is his name, and folly is with him. But I your servant did not see the young men of my lord, whom you sent. . . Please forgive the trespass of your servant."she pleaded. "For the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house, because my lord is fighting the battles of the LORD, and evil shall not be found in you so long as you live."(1 Samuel 25:25-28)
David thanked her profusely for preventing him from slaughtering Nabal and all his household. When Abigail related all of this to Nabal the next morning, his heart "died within him, and he became as a stone." Ten days later he was dead. Nabal had indeed been a faithless, thankless and heartless fool. He died in his unbelief.

To believe in God is to believe in the true God who has revealed Himself in the person of His Son, Jesus Christ and to act upon that faith. As Peter said to the rulers of Jerusalem, "This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved"(Acts 4:11-12).

Such faith is not the result of any 'God gene' or discovery by meditation, drugs or study. The Apostle Paul puts it quite succinctly as he says this about the Gospel or good news of Jesus Christ,
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!"
But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?" So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ (Romans 10:12-17).
It is one thing to have a mystical or spiritual experience and call this faith in God. It is quite another thing to have saving faith in the God whose name ancient Israel would not even pronounce, but who has come among us in this last days in the person of Jesus, the Christ or Messiah.
