The Destruction of All Things

The doomsday movie 2012 opens November 13. The entire planet faces destruction predicted by the ancient Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012. Will science once again come to the rescue of mankind? Aha! Wait and see. There may be hope yet.

As usual with the anticipated opening of the movie we are hearing again that Nostradamus predicted this terrible disaster, along with the Mayans. Once more the media will borrow a word from the Bible and call it Armageddon. Everyone will be checking their calendars, watching the skies and wondering what will happen on December 21, 2012.

What a great way to sell movie tickets!

Of course, we postmodern, 21st century folks are way beyond such myths and other forms of nonsense, right? Of course. Check out Astroengine and learn that 2012 Doomsday is a fabrication, an abuse of science and another way to make money. So there you have it, the entertainment-to-make-money factor. No end of the planet. Life goes on—at least for a time.

It's interesting that no one seems to be pointing out amidst all this hype that the old Vikings and their ilk also believed in some coming end-of-the-worlds scenario. They called it Ragnaroek, the twilight of the gods. The Germans called it Goetterdammerung, the damnation of the gods. The word was applied to the final days of Nazi German in 1944-45

Wagner's great Opera by that name portrayed it. In the final scene the Rhinemaidens regain their gold, purified of its curse, leaving a human world redeemed by love.

In my newest novel the priestess of Freya has such a vision of Goetterdammerung, but she is unable to determine what it means.

  1. end of the world? One of the recent 'prophets', Harold Camping, on Family Radio, sys it will be in May 2011! some novels can actually bring in the truth of God as outlined in the Bible, which you undoubtedly will show in your writing, but often much of what is portrayed as truth today (especially on t.v.and radio) is actually fiction.
